These aren't the droids you're looking for - Twinsie post with Geeky Owl

Hey y'all!

If you're geek, and really, if you're reading this blog, you probably are, you already know that today is officially Star Wars Day, so May the Fourth Be With You!  Today I'm linking up with my nail buddy Kristen from Geeky Owl to celebrate with a twinsie post, both of us using the MoYou London SciFi-02 plate, which is full of all kinds of fun little robots and droids.  Neither of us have ever done a twinsie post before, so we decided to make up our own rules about how it's done - neither of us knows what the other's nails will look like, and our only conditions were to use the same plate, so I'm totally excited to see what she's done, as well!

I opted to make decals from a variety of the robots and set them on a very Tatooine-y background to pay homage to the scene that inspired this post.  Side note, "Tatooine-y" is a cool word.

L-R: Barry M Silver Foil, OPI A-Piers To Be Tan, Barry M Gold Foil, Sinful Colors Black on Black, Barry M Mushroom, OPI My Vampire Is Buff
I started with a single coat of My Vampire Is Buff, and once it was dry, I did a clingfilm marble over it using A-Piers To Be Tan.  That came out a little too dark, so once it was dry, I used the same technique with My Vampire Is Buff to bring it back to the sandy tone that I wanted, and gave it a coat of Out The Door (because I was unworried about smearing and in fact wanted to encourage more blending of the colors).

After that I set to work making my decals.  This is a slightly tedious process but essentially I used the technique of making the decals on the stamp head.  Most of them were stamped with Black on Black, except my index finger which was stamped in the Gold Foil.  I used a fine point dotting tool and my smallest detail brushes to add the colors, starting with the smallest details first.  I didn't picture it above but the green that shows up in a couple of the stamps is Models Own Midori, and the burgundy detailing is a Company Polish called Rita.

After applying the details (and managing to smudge the crap out of one of them), my final step was to add some "ground" underneath them in Mushroom.  Because I spent so much time on them, I have to show you the macros, right?  Underneath is the image from the plate so you can see how the images stamp before the decals were made.

My index finger reminds me a bit of the black "evil" robots from Short Circuit.  Did anyone else love those movies as much as me?  "Los Locos kick your ass.  Los Locos kick your face.  Los Locos kick your butt into outer space!"

This little flying guy on my middle finger reminds me of a cross between Wall-E's girlfriend Eve and Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet

My ring finger got the cutest little guy of the bunch!  In honor of my Geeky Owl counterpart today, I included this guy who is obviously a nod to Bubo from Clash of the Titans.

I love this lil guy SO MUCH and I'm so sad that he got all smeared up during application.  I'm really not sure who he's supposed to be but he reminds me of Wall-E and Johnny 5, only without the rolling treads.  Totally cute, and I am sad that you can't see his little wind-up pin because of the angle of the camera. :(

I saved this nail for last, because, LOOK!  She IS the droid he was looking for!  I used two separate images here, and I'm sad that she got a bit mussed under topcoat as well.

Please please please do go check out Geeky Owl today to see her droid-inspired mani in honor of Star Wars Day, and May the 4th Be With You!

*** Update: If you haven't looked yet, Kirsten made a super cute glitter gradient mani that has R2D2 and C3PO colors in it, and we absolutely used none of the same droid images from the plate, which is so very cool!

But the other guy reminds me of the viewfinder from Toy Story that Buzz and Woody use as binoculars! Ok, I totally love your decals they turned out fantastic! And those two love bots, so cute that they were the ones they were looking for! Bah! You are awesome!

    1. I kept thinking there was a Toy Story guy that looked like him but I couldn't remember and opted to play it safe with characters I knew for sure. I had SO MUCH fun doing this twinsie with you, and the reveal this morning was just priceless. We'll have to do it again, because YOU are awesome!
