Let me start off by wishing my mommy a very happy birthday today. I wish I could be there to celebrate it with her, but such is life. Today I took some very LOOSE inspiration from my husband's little maple trees that live in front of our house. Their spring colors seems to be green and greenish yellow tinged with red. They're quite pretty, and I wanted to sort of play with the colors in some nail art. I cannot confess to these actually looking anything like maple leaves, but whatever...
In creating today's look, I actually wound up using all Barry M products. I don't know why but that usually makes me really pleased with myself when I do an entire mani using all colors from the same manufacturer. Is that weird? Don't answer.
L-R: Barry M Plum, Key Lime, Blood Orange, Gold Foil |
It all began with two coats of the lovely Key Lime on all nails. I adore this color but it needs nail art on my fingers, otherwise it makes my fingers look kind of yellow.
When it was dry, I used the very edge of a makeup wedge to sponge irregular lines of Plum along the side of my nail. Again, there wasn't a whole lot of forethought behind this; I just kind of went with it, and the technique doesn't even really show since I ultimately covered up most of it with the gold.
I then took my fine detail brush and used it to splat on Blood Orange around the outline of the purple splodges in some mocking semblance to my inspiration maple leaves.
I'm so, so sorry, maple leaves. Unsatisfied with the results, I decided to add some veining with the Gold Foil and that same detail brush. I'm not sure this made it better. However, I was feeling NO pain, so I was okay with the decision. I added the rhinestones on my two middle fingers somewhere during my second mug of spiked coffee, because bling is always prettier when you're working on a good weekend morning drunk.
After taking a few pics of it as-is, I thought, hey, I should matte that! So I did on all the nails that didn't have rhinestones with Sally Hansen Big Matte.
I kind of wish I'd done it before I added the rhinestones, because I quite prefer it matte to glossy.
In any event, I hope you enjoyed today's drunken nail art. Maybe I should make this a series. What do you think?
This is really super cute! I especially like it matte!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of or tried out this brand of nail polish before. But wow, those results do look /seriously/ good. I think they do kind of resemble maple leaves as well, you know :) You used a good mix of colours which perfectly go well with the background. I might try these out you know, without the jewels though.
