Pink Zebra Nail Art for NET Cancer Awareness Day

Hey y'all!

Long time, no faff, eh?  As I stated in my last post back in June, things have been pretty busy for me trying to start up my own nail technician business.  I can report that things are moving along, perhaps a little slower than I'd like, but forward motion is progress nonetheless.  I've been throwing my energies into advertisement and getting my name out there, as well as training on new techniques and treatments to add to my services list.  But, enough about me, because I haven't come out of my cave just to give you an update on what's going on inside it.  Today, I wanted to share with you a nail art look I created in response to a call for action from one of my blogger buddies and all-around neat chick, Emma from Em's Little Corner.  You see, last December, Emma's husband was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, of which she'd never heard, called Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET).  Because the symptoms of NET are similar to other conditions (and can therefore be misdiagnosed easily), the International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance has chosen the zebra ribbon to represent the cause - because when you hear hooves, you assume horses, but what if a zebra comes along?  The INCA wants to spread awareness among medical professionals and the general public to think zebra when it comes to screening illnesses.

To that end, a few of us nail blogger types are participating in a pink zebra mani linkup to help spread awareness of this overlooked condition today, which is NET Cancer Awareness Day.

Sparkly Purple Negative Space Zebra Nail Art - WIDW

Hey y'all!

Welcome back to What I Did (with it) Wednesday!  We're officially mid-way through April now, and time doesn't seem to be slowing down for ANY reason!  On Saturday I showed you my swatch of Red Carpet Manicure's Diamond gel polish, a holographic glitter top coat that I applied over bare nails.  Today I'm back to show you the nail art that I've created over it, using two additional new (to me) products, because I couldn't wait to play with them!

Geeky Owl's New Year Confetti - NCC Recreations

Hey y'all!

Happy Friday!  It has been a bit of a hectic week around here, so I've not had a whole lot to say, but I'm really excited that today I get to show you another recreation to celebrate the third anniversary of the Nail Challenge Collaborative.  I feel like although I've only just joined the NCC myself, I've been a fan of so many of these ladies for a long time, and that certainly includes the artist I'm recreating today.  Here is my version of Geeky Owl's New Year Confetti nail art.

Beachy Gradient Colorblocking Nail Art - NCC Inspired By Fashion

Hey y'all!

Friday's finally here, and it's the last Friday of the month, so that's insane.  Thankfully it's also my chance to present my final look for this month's NCC theme: Inspired by Fashion, where I got to play with a neutral palette and a beachy-themed gradient with some colorblocking.

Aquatic Houndstooth - WIDW

Hey y'all!

Hope you're all recovering from green beer-fueled benders last night, because of course that means the luck o' the Irish is with you!  Today's What I Did Wednesday features the swatch of OPI Get Your Number that I swatched on Saturday, with some stamped gradient nail art on top.

Hey, Swatch It! OPI Get Your Number

Hey y'all!

Happy Saturday!  Today I've got a beautiful OPI textured polish for you that behaves quite unlike any of the other Liquid Sands in my collection.  Get Your Number is a deep blue jelly filled with all sorts of little glitter goodies to fill out the texture.

Marbling with Permanent Marker (Sharpie) Nail Art

Hey y'all!

Happy Ash Wednesday?  Since today's holiday didn't really inspire me to do any nail art, I thought I'd look forward to tomorrow, which is the start of the Chinese New Year.  This is the year of the sheep or goat, and that didn't really inspire me much either, but I wanted to try a new technique that has been making the rounds of the nail artist community recently, which is the hot new trend of using alcohol-soluble inks for nail art.  You can purchase the inks in bottles at craft stores, or more economically you can look in your office supplies and find permanent felt-tip markers, most commonly known under the brand name of Sharpie.  What I ended up with didn't really look very Chinese New Year, but it still looks pretty cool.

Hey, Swatch It! OPI DS Reflection

Hey y'all!

Happy Valentine's Day!  Wow, it feels like it's been forever since I've done a Swatch It Saturday for you!  I'm happily back today with a gorgeous holo from the OPI Designer Series, Reflection, and I think it's a perfect color for today's Hallmark holiday.  Check it out.

31DC-D29 - Blue Base

Hey y'all!

Well, I finally saw the dentist yesterday, and prognosis: root canal.  Fun!  All I can say is that I'm happy that I'm not in the overwhelming pain that I've suffered the past 5 days waiting for that appointment!  Now we can return to regular broadcasting... whatever that means around here.  Today's prompt for the 31DC is Blue Base, so I decided to play around with another abstract technique to create this look.

31DC-D24 - Decals

Hey y'all!

Today's prompt for the 31-Day Challenge is Decals, and whereas I had intended to do a tutorial for making homemade water slide decals, time got away from me and I seem to have lost my water slide paper anyway, so that's gonna get pushed back, but it IS coming.  Instead I turned to a baggie in the bottom of my nail art kit that contains all the random decals and stickers that I somehow end up with but never use.  I pulled out a set of pretty French Tips and used them to make this look.

31DC-D22 - Blobbicure

Hey y'all!

Hope you're all feelin footloose and fancy free!  Today's prompt for the 31-Day Challenge was to create a Blobbicure, also known as a pebble manicure.  I decided to play with some textures and tones to create this... almost patriotic look.

31DC-D13 Inspired By Pinterest

Hey y'all!

My look today is inspired by this Butter London gold french and half moon look from Fashion Week 2014.  I loved the simplicity and thought it would be an excellent palette cleanser from all the heavy nail art looks I've been doing lately.

31DC-D9 - Red Base

Hey y'all!

Happy Friday!  Another week is DONE and it's time to slip into something sexy and spend some time out with friends or in with someone special (as applicable).  In honor of frisky Friday, I chose to do a sexy lace look for today's 31 Day Challenge prompt of Red Base.

31DC-D6 - Half and Half

Hey y'all!

Hope everyone's transition back to work yesterday wasn't too stressful.  It's Tuesday, which means that tonight I'll hopefully be attending the local camera club meetup and maybe start learning some stuffs (and dare I say it, meeting new people?)  After several hours yesterday playing with my camera settings, I finally managed to get some pics of this gorgeous nail art that I created for the 31DC Day 6 prompt, Half and Half.  I also took pics with my old compact camera, which are at the end of this post so you can compare.

31DC-D5 - Dotting Tools

Hey y'all!

Monday's here, and I guess it's officially time to get back to the grind - the holidays are over and we've got a brand new year ahead of us.  I hope if you made resolutions and/or goals that you've not already given up on them.  Remember that even if you stumble, you can get right back up again and keep going!  This year I'm going to start working on getting out and interacting with my new community more than I have been thus far - between the culture shock and my own social anxiety, it has been incredibly hard for me to try to make new friends here locally, so it's become a goal of mine to change that.  I have no clever segue from that into today's nail art, so I'll just say that today we're working with the theme of dotting tools, and I created this fun look that I'm calling a peanut butter and jelly dotticure.

31DC-D1 - Follow a Tutorial

Happy New Year, y'all!

I hope you all had a great holiday.  I spent most of the last week binge-watching Lost with Mr. Faff, which put me into a serious time crunch for starting off my first goal for the new year - the January 2015 31-Day Challenge, as hosted by Crumpet's Nail Tarts!  This is my first ever 31DC, and I had intended to get so much work done ahead of time to make it easier on myself, but then I felt guilty for not spending any time with the hubs, so... the challenge got pushed aside.  Here's hoping I'll be able to get some serious work done this next week to get myself ahead of the game for the rest of the month!  The first prompt for this challenge is to Follow A Tutorial, so I scooted over to YouTube to find a simple but elegant tutorial for NYE.  I followed this "Elegant black & pink nails with dotting nail art" tutorial by LifeWorldWomen but changed up the colors just a smidge, because, ew, pink.

12DOC: Freestyle Christmas Tartan Plaid

Hey y'all!

Today is an exciting day for two reasons!  First, it is the final prompt for the 12 Days of Christmas challenge which has consumed this month's blogging activity for me, and the second reason is a fairly big blogging milestone.  This is my 300th post!  Who would've thought when I started this journey just over a year ago that I'd have logged 300 entries into this blog?  It's very bizarre for me.  In any event, today's final prompt for this challenge is Freestyle, leaving it completely open to each artist's interpretation.  I took inspiration from another artist's design for the Red and Green prompt and while my attempt is nowhere near as sophisticated or chic as Natasja's of Love Life Lacquer, here are my Christmas tartan/plaid nails!

12DOC: Presents!

Hey y'all!

Happy first day of winter (officially)!  Seems a bit bizarre, given that I've been wearing a uniform of sweatshirts, long pants, and socks for months now, but I'm still a Texas girl at heart and it's bizarre that my flip-flops were retired for the year in October.  Today marks the penultimate prompt for the 12 Days of Christmas nail art challenge!  It's also the final assigned prompt, because Tuesday's prompt will be freestyle and open to all the artists' interpretations.  I find this prompt particularly appropriate though, because it involves something that I still haven't done and need to do quickly - wrapping presents!

12DOC: Christmas Decorations

Hey y'all!

Yup, it's Monday, again, and we're now halfway through December.  By now, neighborhoods should be filled with creative and festive light-up displays at dusk, where enterprising homeowners compete with one another for the most Christmas-y lawn display of the street.  This was the inspiration I used to complete today's 12 Days of Christmas prompt: Christmas Decorations.

12DOC: Red and Green Candy Canes

Hey y'all!

We are now in the final half of the 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge, and today's prompt is Red and Green colors.  I took inspiration from the colorful Christmas candy canes (and two of Barry M's Winter Silk shades) to create this striped design.
