31DC-D8 - Monochromatic

Hey y'all!

I feel like I've lost track of the days.  I had gotten into so such a good groove with the M-W-F-S posting schedule, and then December came and the 12DOC challenge threw that all askew, and now we've rolled on into 2015 with this 31DC and I don't know what I'm doing WITH MY LIFE anymore.  Also because Mr. Faff and I have not bought new calendars yet, I have a blank space on my wall where I normally track the days, so it's like, where am I?  What am I doing?  WHO AM I???  So exhausting!  Okay, vent over.  Today I think is Thursday, and today's prompt for the 31DC is Monochromatic.  I toyed with the idea of doing shades of a single color (because did you know that monochrome doesn't just mean black and white?) but ultimately decided that I wanted to play with something in my stash that I hadn't tried yet, so I went to greyscale for this look.

The fun behind this look started with my Sally Hansen big smoky top coat, which is a pale black jelly designed to "smoke out" any nail polish over which it's applied.  I decided I wanted to use it as my base color in a black and white monochrome look and then did some stamping over it, so I applied it to all of my nails except the middle finger, which got a coat of Sinful Colors Black on Black as the base.

I chose the graduated dots image from VL031 and stamped it with my Konad Black on the smoky nails, and in Barry M Chai on the black nail.  I then decided I wanted to outline those nails, so I used Black on Black to outline the smoky nails and Chai to outline the black one.

Because it STILL didn't feel very finished, I then applied the corner wing-shaped image from Allura P21 in Konad White to each nail.  When everything was dry, I top-coated with SV.

I decided I liked the look glossy, but thought it might look cool matted as well, so I then applied a coat of Sally Hansen big matte top coat over all the nails as well.

This was a really fun look to play with, even though my stamping is definitely not on point lately.  However, this look did catch the attention and appreciation of the cashier at the grocery store, so that's a win.

Be sure to check out the other Monochromatic looks in the inlinkz below!

Hope you're all having a great week, and I'll see ya tomorrow!

ROFL, I HAVE to have a calendar up first thing when the new year comes along because I just can't handle not knowing the dates. Anyway….you are seriously killing these looks lately, and this is no exception. I freaking love it with a matte top coat. :)

Thank you! Isn't it infuriating to feel all out of synch with time and space?
Um, these are stunning! Wow! Can't decide if I like them better matte or not. Either way, they are gorgeous!

This looks totally fabulous matted. I know what you mean about not having a calendar. I don't have one yet, either! I'm on the lookout for the perfect one. After all, I have to look at it for a whole year!

Thank you! Hubby ended up getting me a Sherlock calender. He gave me a DW daily calender for Christmas but I don't really have room for it on my workstation, so I needed a month-at-a-glance one for the wall.
These are so cool! I love this!
