60s Mod Negative Space nail art

Hey y'all!

Happy Monday everyone!  We're almost halfway through October and this is normally where I would start getting really excited about Halloween, but unfortunately I have no fabulous fun plans this year (or last year, for that matter).  The British don't celebrate All Hallows Eve the same way we do it up in the US - but it's always been my favorite holiday, so at least I can celebrate on my nails.  This week's themes for the Pick-n-Mix challenge are the 60s and matte or texture.  I worked really hard on a design that would encompass all of those themes, and came up with this kind of funky look, which I can tell you unequivocally, Mr. Faff *hated*.  I'll let you be the final judge.

Thankfully I was able to condense this design into two colors and play off the negative space between them, so I selected a couple of Sinful Colors.

L-R: Sinful Colors Snow Me White and Enchanted
I started this look by adding two coats of Snow Me White to my index nail, because that was the only nail that would be fully painted.  I then applied the purple round studs in the near-funnel pattern that would mimic the negative space I would create on my other nails. By adding the studs, this nail completes my textured part of the challenge.

On my middle and ring fingers, I applied two coats of Enchanted, but I left a rough half-moon open at my cuticles.  I came back in with a concealer brush and some acetone to clean up the half-moon lines, and then removed the stripe of polish down the center of my nail.  This actually created too large a stripe, so I used a striping brush to close those lines back up.  This shape resembles the mod look of 60s interior design and fashion

On my thumb and pinky, I created the negative of this shape by painting in the half-moon and stripe in the same colors, and then sealed everything in with SV.

Of course, as much as I loved these nails glossy, there was another aspect of the challenge that I hadn't yet hit, so I matted the whole thing down (except the studs because they're far too pretty shiny) with Sally Hansen big matte top coat.

And now it's time for you to sound off!  Is Mr. Faff right that these are just too weird, or am I okay with thinking that sometimes funky retro = cool?  Let me have it down in the comments!

Hope you're all having a good week and that you've got your costumes ready.  I'll see ya soon!
