Avast Ye Bilge Rats Pirate Nail Art Challenge Day 3: Gold and/or Treasure

Ahoy, me hearties!

I'm back again for day 3 of the Avast Ye Bilge Rats pirate-themed nail art challenge, and today's prompt is all about the BOOTY BLING!  Today's manis will all be themed around buckets of doubloons, pieces of eight and any other beauties a freebooter might covet - Gold and/or Treas-ARRR!

Avast Ye Bilge Rats Pirate Nail Art Challenge Day 3: Gold and/or Treasure. A freehand nail art using three different glitter mixes to create a diagonal stripe pattern.

Let's weigh anchor and have a look at the pretties I used to create this look.

L-R: Sally Hansen Black Out, OPI My Voice is a Little Norse, Nail Pattern Boldness Covetous, Quirk custom Bastards, Cripples, and Broken Things
I picked through my own treasure chest to find the prettiest, sparkliest, shiniest polishes I could, and once I'd narrowed them down to three, I couldn't decide which to use - so I used them all!

I started with a coat of Black Out on all my nails.  Once it was dry, I used the bottle brush to create a free edge triangle of My Voice is a Little NorseMVIALN is like the bigger, brassier cousin of China Glaze Fairy Dust, full of gorgeous, densely-packed holo glitters.

I moved up to the cuticle line to add Bastards, Cripples, and Broken Things, a custom polish I got from Kerrie as part of a huge order just before her shop closed.  I'm totally in love with this mix of metallic glitters and iridescent flakies.  It looks like a treasure chest in the bottle!  Once I dabbed on a bit of the glitter mix, I used a nail art brush to move it into place along the cuticles and create a sharp line parallel to the one I'd created with MVIALN.  This left me with an open band down the middle of each nail, which I filled with Covetous, one of the gorgeous Parliament of Magpies collection I purchased in the spring.  It's a dense mix of navy, chartreuse, and purple microglitters that goes opaque in two coats.  LOVE!

I hope you love this sparkly glitter collection.  I think I'm most surprised that I was able to do this all freehand, as I had been half expecting to need to start over using tape to me the lines work.  As it turns out, all the shiny bits obscure the need for sharp lines, although if I were to do it again, I'd use striping tape to mark off the sections so that I'd have small black bands between them - or possibly use gold tape and leave it there!  I would love to hear what you think down in the comments!

If you're really diggin' all this treasure, please take a moment to check out some of the other booty-ful looks from today's prompt in the inlinkz below.

Are you loving this pirate-themed week? More importantly, are you ready for International Talk Like A Pirate Day on Friday?  I definitely am!

Have a great day, and I'll see you tomorrow!
