Texas Traveling Nails
Hey y'all!
Happy Friday! I've been gearing up behind the scenes to power through the rest of the year, and hopefully to start posting to my neglected YouTube channel again on a weekly basis. My hope is that I'll be able to do nail polish swatches and art here on the blog, and use my channel to do tutorials for polish nail art and... acrylics/gels! Since taking my tech training, I've been gathering supplies and practicing with them so that I can hopefully start those weekly videos before the end of the year! I'm waiting now for my gel supplies to arrive, along with a training practice hand, which I'll use for the videos since I've decided I'm rubbish at keeping my own hands in frame while I'm working on them. In the mean time though, I've still got a lot of polish nail art to show you, and I'm starting with the nails I did last month before setting off on our trip to Texas. I wanted something sparkly and burnt orange and white (because I'm a Longhorn, afterall), and threw these together the night before we left (in a rush because I still had to pack!).

Disney's Little Mermaid Nail Art - LNMBC
Hey y'all!
It's been a while since I did any nail art for the Llama Nails Movies/Books Challenge, but this week's prompt of Disney finally motivated me to do something I've been debating for a very long time - glitter placement. After having a long think about my favorite Disney movies, I settled on one that is both a personal favorite for the music and which I felt I had a good supply of appropriate glitters to get the look I wanted, so, today's look is inspired by Disney's Little Mermaid.

Freehand Jacquard and Corset nail art - LNTC
Hey y'all!
Yesterday marked the Faff's one year wedding anniversary, and in good fashion, of course I spent a good part of the evening getting this post ready to publish while he took care of planting the evergreen sapling that was my gift to him (he gave me complete box sets of Heroes and Sherlock). We're pretty low-key in this household, so festivities involved a "special" homecooked meal of slow-cooker steak in mushroom gravy and jacket sweet potato, a bit of wine, and some televisual feasting. It's really, really, really hard to believe we've been married for a year now and that I haven't murdered him in his sleep.
Yet. ;)
I digress. Today's penultimate prompt for the Llama Nails Technique Challenge is Freehand design, and I was a bit flummoxed for ideas on this until I browsed my Pinterest inspiration board and remembered that I'd always wanted to give a corset nail another try. Once that was set, the jacquard print fell into place and I had some nail art!

Another flocking nail art - LNTC
Hey y'all!
Wednesday brings another go-round for the Llama Nail Technique Challenge, and this week we're all flocked up - with flocked nails! I chose to create a seasonally appropriate white and neon.

'Ikat a cold on 'oliday... LNTC - Ikat
Hey y'all!
The Faffs recently returned from a 2-week trip to Texas so I could visit family and friends and of course shop for a mess of nail art goodies, coffee, and other sundries. Unfortunately, both of us came down pretty miserably sick at the beginning of the visit, so our vacation was definitely not what it could have or should have been. I missed out on spending as much time with my peeps as I would've wanted, and we definitely didn't feel up to doing everything we had planned to do. However, it's still nice to get away and of course Mommy Faff and I were happy to spend time together. The Chibi monster also seemed happy to see me and was grateful to have someone else to play with. He's definitely showing signs of slowing down though, and he gets exhausted very easily so we had to play in very short bursts. The plus side of all of this is that there will be a haul post coming up very soon (if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen a rather huge nailmail picture I shared, but that didn't include my retail purchases!). The down side is that while I managed to get 2 weeks worth of nail art up and scheduled before we left, I came back to an empty buffer again, so today's post has literally been photographed and edited today. Whee for working on the fly!
This week's theme for the Llama Nails Techniques Challenge is Ikat - which I know very little about except that it's pronounced ee-kaht rather than eye-cat. I'm quite sure there's a joke about Apple's newest pet product out there, but I'm still a bit too full of sinus stuff to possibly attempt more than one pun today, and the title of this post wore me plum out. Anyway...

Purple negative space stamping - GOTPC
Hey y'all!
There's been a few rumblings through the internetz lately about negative-space manis making a rise in 2014. Last month One Nail To Rule Them All did an awesome tutorial for her soft pink Valentine's heart mani which used negative space very effectively, and I've been pondering how I can play with the concept. Today's challenge provided me with a perfect opportunity. It's Golden Oldie Thursday, and this week's theme is my favorite and most common color in my stash - Purples!

Mardi Gras French Tips and Beads - TPTC
Hey y'all!
I'm SO EXCITED for it to be the first Tuesday of March. Why? Because the Tri-Polish Challenge colors have turned to purple, blue, and green! This makes me happy in my heart and my brain because those are absolutely the most prominent colors in my stash, and I LURVE playing matchmaker with them!
The timing also couldn't be better for starting today, because it's Mardi Gras, whose traditional colors feature two of this month's TPTC colors, purple and green! Today I've got a festive beaded look for you that is a fun and elegant way to celebrate Fat Tuesday in style!

Bend ahead: GOT Polish Chevrons
Hey y'all!
It's time for another round of TBT with the Golden Oldies Thursday Polish Challenge. This week's theme is chevrons! Since I'm still deeply embroiled in getting my driving test passed, I can think of no other interpretation of chevron than as a road sign. So that's what you get. Road chevrons.

Valentine's Hearts Argyle - GOT Polish Thursday
Hey y'all!
I'm back in the GOT Polish Challenge this week with a new take on the argyle pattern using polishes that are all over a year old, and in at least one case, probably about 10 years old. The theme this week is Valentine's Day, so I've adapted the typical diamond shape in argyle and replaced it with hearts!

Electric Cotton Candy (Faery Floss)
Hey y'all!
I'm back with another new technique, courtesy of the Techniques Challenge presented by Llama Nails. This week our prompt was Sugar Spun Mani, so I created a candy-coated look with three bright colors.

Llama Nails Technique Challenge: Waterfalls
Hey y'all!
Today brings about the start of a new Llama Nails challenge, this time based on techniques. I'm really excited about this one, because it will give me a chance to try some techniques that I haven't yet attempted, and an opportunity to perfect some of the ones in which I'm already pretty well-versed.

Llama Nails Holiday Challenge week 15 - Chinese New Year
Hey y'all!
Today is a remarkable day for me. It is the conclusion of my first ever nail art challenge! Oddly, it isn't the first one I've ended, but it is the end of the first one I started. Confused? S'okay, no worries. Today's theme is Chinese New Year, so here's my digits! My fingers, not my phone number. Sorry.

GOT Polish Challenge - Pinks: Swampy Hearts
Hey y'all!
Today marks the beginning of ANOTHER challenge put forth by the lovely ladies of Crumpet's Nail Tarts. Debbie's idea was simple: start using up all those unloved polishes at the back of our stash drawers. Thus was created the Golden Oldies Thursday (GOT) Polish Challenge.
The rules are simple:

The rules are simple:
- the polish you use should be at least one year old
- if you haven't been a polishaholic that long, you can use the oldest polishes you have
- the polish should be previously used, but if you're stuck, you could free a yearling from Mount Untried
- you can use more than 1 polish as long as it fits the theme and the rules

CNTCWC D7: Winter Characters
Hey y'all!
Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, whether you celebrate the day or not! Today is called Boxing Day in the UK (and assorted Commonwealth countries), where tradesmen and people in service positions traditionally receive a box of gifts or money from their bosses. I still like to think it's called Boxing Day because that's when you clean up all the boxes and wrapping paper from Christmas presents, though. It's kind of weird having the day after Christmas be a holiday, whereas in the States we celebrate Christmas Eve instead, but I guess either way it's two days for Christmas. Today we've come to the penultimate challenge of the CNTCWC today, and our theme is Winter Characters.
I wanted to do a non-traditional take on the theme (I can hear you gasping in shock already) so I played around with ideas for a while and something about the thought of Santa's view of his reindeer as they were returning to the North Pole after Christmas struck me as cute, so today, you get REINDEER BUTTS!

CNTCWC D6: Christmas Food
Hey y'all!
Christmas week is finally here, and last night, we finally got a bit of snow that stuck around til morning. Of course it has all melted now by the afternoon, but it's something, right? Today's theme in the CNTCWC is Christmas Food, which has already been on my mind as we get preparations done for Christmas day. I toyed with several ideas for what constituted Christmas food, but the one that *always* makes me think Christmas and nothing else is gingerbread houses, so that was the inspiration for today's manicure.

CNTCWC D2: Winter Nature
Hey y'all!
Hope everyone's getting into the Christmas spirit by now. I'm certainly lagging behind on Christmas cheer, but then I'll be honest; it's never been my favorite holiday. This nail art challenge is certainly helping me to think Christmas, but I've never been a home decorating type, and I can't remember the last time I had a Christmas tree in the house. Call me a Scrooge if you will. It's not that I dislike the holiday, more that I just don't get into it the way most people do. The dog certainly doesn't seem to care, anyway. :)
So I've decided not to type out "Crumpet's Nail Tarts Christmas Winter Challenge" twice a week for the next month in my post titles, so when you see "CNTCWC" - that's what it means. Today's theme is Winter Nature. I had a plan for this look that involved having a lot more time to work than I wound up with. Unfortunately, the morning I was going to work on this mani, I woke with a start and ended up flapping my hand on poor Isis' head, cracking a nail in the process. Crisis! Luckily I had put down base coat, base color, and a matte topcoat the night before, so the nail didn't fly off. It is definitely damaged but I was able to do some surgery with a teabag and nail glue to save the nail. Losing this length would've been a calamity for my plans for the rest of this winter nail art challenge!
In the end, I would up with this:

Llama Nails Holiday Challenge week 7: Hanukkah
Hey y'all!
Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving break. Here in jolly ol' England, business was much the same as usual: chilly weather punctuated with days of "nice" weather. By nice, of course, I simply mean I wasn't freezing my ovaries off. It's officially December now, which brings with it a new nail art challenge and continuation of the existing challenge I've been working on for Llama Nails. Doing two challenges at once will be interesting, and by interesting I mean "oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die." The new challenge comes from the FB group Crumpet's Nail Tarts which is spearheaded by Debbie of The Crumpet, and is a really large group of nail enthusiasts. The challenge is winter/Christmas themed and will only last for the month of December. My first challenge nails will be posted tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to this theme as I have some great ideas for it.
Today, however, I continue on the path of the Holiday themed manis with this week's entry: Hanukkah.

Llama Nail Holiday Challenge week 6: Thanksgiving
Hey y'all!
This has been a fairly exciting week for me. I got a lot of things accomplished, including registering with the doctor, who in turn gets me registered with the NHS, so in essence, I have health care again! Yippee! Also, I completed construction of my new light box! Yippee again! I also managed to do my first actual successful water marble design! Yippee f'reals! Also got some shopping done including a few new nail polishes, and I got some nail art done. All in all, I'd say this week's one to mark in the black.
This week's theme in the LN challenge was Thanksgiving. This of course is kind of a tough one for me this year, as I won't be home to spent the long weekend with family. Although, the last few years I've been on obligatory puppy-sitting duty so that Mom could go spend the holiday with the rest of the fam. This was okay with me, because it meant I could order pizza and watch all the crap television I wanted without guilt. However, I do of course still struggle with a bit of homesickness here and there, and nothing drives that home like knowing people back home are enjoying a 4-day weekend while Britain carries on. Because that's what they do: carry on.
I wanted this mani to incorporate the feel of Thanksgiving in colors and have a touch of "back home" without being cliche or too out-there, so I opted for this:

It's finally here! Doctor Who 50th Anniversary!
(Fair warning, this post is faffy AND pic heavy. You've been warned.)
Tonight's the night we geeks have been waiting for - the long-anticipated airing of "Day of the Doctor", the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who. I knew I had to create some nail art to mark the occasion.
Doctor Who has a pretty special meaning in this house. When hubby and I first started bonding online, what with him being British and me being an Anglophile, it was only natural that the subject of the good time-traveling doctor would arise. Hubby's doc is Tom Baker. Mine is David Tennant. Although I remember seeing the show on PBS as a kid; it was Colin Baker's era, and I remember looking at his ridiculous costume and the not-good monsters and thinking, "this is a little too weird" - even for a weird kid such as myself. It just didn't "take" back then.
