Tri-Polish Tuesdays: Red, Orange, and Yellow week 1

Hey y'all!

So today begins another new Facebook group challenge, one of two that I'll be participating in courtesy of Crumpet's Nail Tarts.  The Tri-Polish Challenge has apparently been around for a while, but I didn't want to jump in last year as I was still getting my bearings.  However, a new year brings new opportunities for me to stretch my nail art skills, and this challenge is right in that vein.

The challenge rules are pretty simple - Three colours will be chosen for each month and you post up to four manis using those three colours, plus the allowed extra colours of black, white, silver, gold and glitter toppers.  At least one mani must contain all three colours, while the others must contain as least two of the chosen colours.

For the month of January, the colors are red, orange, and yellow. I've chosen Sinful Colors Sugar Sugar and Courtney Orange, and elf Yellow.

I guess I'm kind of a creature of habit, because I didn't really plan this nail art out before doing it, and wound up doing a gradient design with a stamp and some studs.  Not very original, I know.  Perhaps that should just become my signature manicure.

I started by doing about 3 coats of a wet sponge gradient of Sugar Sugar and Courtney Orange across all nails, but I was paying very special attention to getting a smooth transition from red to orange, and I think I accomplished that pretty well. Then I stamped on the whirling vortex pattern from BM-418 in Yellow.  Once that it was done, it was time to add some studs.

You may recognize these studs from yesterday's mani - I like to reuse studs because whereas any color on them will strip off when I remove the polish, the stud underneath is still viable and can be reused many times.  I painted these with about 3 coats of elf Yellow to match the stamp.  However, the look still didn't seem pulled together for me, so I opted to finish it by putting on a coat of elf Golden Goddess to kind of tie things in and add some sparkle.

As with any challenges, all other participants will have be listed below.  Please do go share the love!

Chibi update:  I got a wonderful email from Mom late last night, telling me the results of the cardiologist review.  After doing all sorts of tests and exams, the cardiologist has determined that the little shiht...zu mix does NOT have congestive heart failure.  Apparently his heart is a little enlarged but not dangerously so, and he has the early stages of chronic valve disease, which is highly treatable.  As a result of this and a chronic allergic airway diseases, they presume he was fainting due to "cough drop" syndrome, which is basically fatigue and weakness caused by overexertion and not getting enough oxygen.  So, basically he still needs some TLC but the prognosis isn't QUITE as grim as it was before, so everyone's resting a little bit easier.  For now.

Hoping the first full week of the year is finding you all well and staying warm.

Much love,
Ali
