Hey, Swatch it! Chubby Owl Polishes

Hey y'all!

So yesterday was the dreaded VD, and I did the most romantic thing I could think of for my hubby - I went and had my annual "girly bits" exam, but I'm not the only one who did.  One of my dear friends back home also goes for her annual with her sister, and they both have mammograms done.  Nobody likes to talk about it, but it's important that you find a date that you can remember each year to get yourself screened, because female cancers are a huge killer and they can definitely be caught early with routine screening.  Are you overdue for yours?

With all that out of the way, let's move on to what you really came for - the polishes.  I've got two beautiful lacquers to show you from another UK Indie - this time it's Chubby Owl.  As you may remember, I've made it a mission to try a new indie each month and I could not be happier that Chubby Owl is this month's selection.  Everything was shipped very neatly while still being pretty, and Jemma even included a sucker for me, which of course made my day, because it's the little things.

How adorable is that logo?  I mean, seriously...

Without much further ado, let me show you what's in those gorgeous bottles!

Essiepops

So this little cutie is named after Jemma's hamster, which is a quirky little name for a pet, but we don't judge because we like quirky things!  The polish itself is just adorable, a pale blue crelly base with ginormous pinky purple holo glitter, silver holo hexes, and tiny gold holo hexes.  Application was fairly easy, as I set the bottle upside down overnight before I painted.

Shown here is two coats of Essiepops over two coats of Rimmel Royal Blue (over black).  I did have to manually place a few of the large circle glitters, but I think that's pretty standard and I didn't have to do a lot of fishing for them.  Everything is sealed in with a couple of coats of SV, and I didn't have any problems with curling or sticking up from those big circles.

I've seen this polish swatched over pale blue and a pale lilac, so I was really curious when my bet paid off that it would look pretty dynamic over a darker base.  The light blue crelly and the darker blue duochrome sort of give the polish a misty, dare I say, ethereal kind of glow.  I was mesmerized.  My only regret is not thinking to try mattifying it before I took it off.  I think that might've looked really nice.  Next time, friends.

Majestic Moonstone

Majestic Moonstone is a gorgeous purple jelly base, filled to brimming with all holographic glitters, including large purple circles, large silver circles, blue hexes, and tiny purple hexes.  My love of all things purple practically called this guy forth and into my basket, but I'm so pleased.

I wanted to test the depth of the purple jelly, so this is a single coat over Models Own White Light (one of the recently-released Hypergels, review still to come), although I could easily have added more coats to deepen the purple.  After that dried, I used a sponge technique to place the glitters around more evenly.  This polish definitely seems to have more of those big circle glitters in it, so they didn't want to play as nicely as the ones in Essiepops, although it was not hard to fish them out and get them where I wanted them.  Everything is sealed in with SV again, and again, I had very little issue with stick-ups.

Luckily I DID have the presence of mind to matte this before I was done... so YAY for that.  Wanna see what it looks like?  Do ya?  Huh?  Huh?

Alright, since you asked... these are all with a single coat of OPI Matte Topcoat.

This was truly one of those manis that I just didn't want to take off, and I don't mean because of the pain of glitter removal. I just loved this whimsical beauty and I'm mesmerized by those holo circles. They're so... big... and shiny... and yay!

Overall I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase from Chubby Owl.  I love her branding, and I love her polishes!

Hoping this weekend finds you and your loved ones well.  We may well be swimming into town today for groceries, so let's hope that mother nature decides to take it easy on UK storms, post-haste.
