GOT Polish Challenge - I got the Blues

Hey y'all!

I'm still playing catch-up today, and so I have yesterday's GOT Polish look today in Blue.  I'm not entirely sure where I was going with this.  I only had one legitimate oldie blue polish in my stash, the same L'Oreal that I used in last week's Stripes look, so I set about working with that and another oldie in what all started as a saran wrap mani and morphed into... well, you be the judge.

I know, it's a hot mess.  It all began innocently enough, when I did two coats of Maybelline Express Finish in Pearl, which must be at least 10+ years old.  It's a sheer pale pearl shimmer with a bit of a pink cast.  When it was dry, I painted on a single coat of L'Oreal Jet-Set in Jet and quickly used a wadded up piece of cellophane to marble it out.  It looked good, but I couldn't stop playing, and wound up putting another coat of Pearl on two accent fingers and then stamped over them with a pattern from the MoYou London Egyptian Explorer plate again in Jet.  The pattern makes the stamp look like it's gold over blue, which is so NOT what happened.  Anyway...

I still couldn't stop fiddling, so I added on rhinestones in light blue and dark blue - alternating round ones on the stamped nails at the center of the swirls, and alternating diamond-shapes in the center of all the other nails.

Yeah, no... still not done.  I wasn't happy that I'd still only managed to use two colors, and only one of them was a blue which read more black on the nails anyway, so I dug out elf Skinny Jeans, which I think was probably released over a year ago, though I don't think I bought this bottle til last summer when it was on clearance.  I added dots in the center of the square swirls on the stamped nails, and completed a cross pattern in dots on the other nails.

I think that finally pushed it over the edge too far.  In hindsight, I should've left the stamping alone, and just used that diamond/cross pattern on a single accent nail.  However... because I suspect I knew that was gonna happen, I took macro shots before I put the dots on, so you can see the details.  I know you're excited about that.  LOL.

So now you know why I've got the blues.  As you can see... the saran wrap nails look pretty good with just the rhinestone pattern, but I still don't think they look very blue.  I'm very not happy with the stamping at all, but that's not the stamp's fault.  I dunno... what do you think I could've done differently to save this manicure?  Let me know in the comments.

On the plus side, this weekend I have a beautiful new UK Indie polish to show you, coming on Sunday.  Tomorrow I'll be talking about my skincare regimen for the #2014BloggerChallenge, and hopefully next week I'll have some great nail art for you.  In the mean time, check out all the gorgeous blue looks created by the other ladies of CNT.
