Christmas Puke

Hey y'all!

Today I have a funny little mani fail to show you that I like to call Christmas Baubles, aka Christmas Puke.  Originally I had thought I would capture the effect of all the bits and bobs on a Christmas tree cascading down my nails.  In reality, it just looked awful, but it tickles me so I thought I'd show you.
.

I started with a base of Sinful Colors Sugar Sugar, which is a beautiful deep red with just enough red microglitter to give it a metallic cast, and it's just deep enough to look great on cool-toned skin like mine.

Next up I started laying on my baubles.  This mani used gold round studs, white half-pearls, and green microbeads.  Unfortunately when I started topcoating them the microbeads bled out, so they're just silver beads in little green pools.

The only finger on which I managed to avoid this problem was my thumb, and here's the interesting bit.  The topcoat that left the color alone was Seche Vite - the other nails were topped with the same clear I'd been using when I laid down the baubles - elf Clear.  Score one for SV not smearing!

Altogether I'm really glad I didn't use this as originally intended, for one of the nail art challenges.  It would've worked in a pinch, but I'm much happier posting it as a funny than as a "hey, look at what I can do!"  Were I to try to "fix" it, I think I would've structured the baubles into neat swirls rather than just all over the nail.  I can imagine a banded cluster of beads weaving across my nails as though in a gust of wind.

As it stands, they really do just look like Christmas puked all over my hands.  Ah well.

Hope you find these as funny as I do.

In other exciting news, I got some nail mail today, containing my new bottle of Duri Rejuvacote, and some new pretties to swatch from Belle Glamour.  I'm pretty excited about the new basecoat, though I did also order a backup bottle of Seche Rebuild just in case something goes sidewards with the Duri.  I've had good results with the Seche, but I've heard even better things about the Duri, so I thought I'd try it out.  As for the swatchy stuff, expect to see a couple of thermals, a new holo, and a new gothy shade hit my blog in the next couple of weeks.  Catriona at Belle Glamour is gearing up for her big launch on Jan 24 but she's going to start pre-orders on Dec 31 and will include a Harry Potter series, about which I'm very curious.

In any event, I'll be back on Sunday with my final submission for the Crumpets Nail Tarts Christmas Winter Challenge - and that will be the first nail art challenge I've ever finished, even though it's the second one I started... weird.  Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
