It's been a while since I did any nail art for the Llama Nails Movies/Books Challenge, but this week's prompt of Disney finally motivated me to do something I've been debating for a very long time - glitter placement. After having a long think about my favorite Disney movies, I settled on one that is both a personal favorite for the music and which I felt I had a good supply of appropriate glitters to get the look I wanted, so, today's look is inspired by Disney's Little Mermaid.
All told, I ended up using 5 different striping polishes, two regular polishes, and three different glitters, as well as one permanent marker that isn't pictured.

Using the striping polishes, I created Ariel's hair on my thumb in Red and Orange, her clamshell bra (sort of) in Lavender on my index and outlined/detailed with a purple permanent marker, and her tail in Glitter Green outlined with Green on my middle finger.
Now, I've used a lot of glitter but the time and attention to detail required to cover an entire nail with tiled pieces of glitter... well, that just wasn't something with which I wanted to mess around. However, having seen some great ones in the last 31 Day Challenge made me want to take it on. I love love love these clear iridescent diamond glitters on my ring finger - in this configuration they look like scales to me. On my pinky I wanted to somewhat simulate a bubbly, under-the-sea look, so I placed the large holo circles in wavey strings and then added the teal holo hexes in strings between them. Once all my glitters were down, I sealed them all in with SV.
Although it was incredibly hard to get my poor little camera to capture these two nails in focus, I did manage to attain a macro for you.
All in all, I'm aware this isn't the most original Little Mermaid look, and that my tip nails could have been a lot neater (except for the tail - I really like that one), but I wanted to focus my energy on the glitter placement and I am pleased with how those came out.
As always I love hearing your thoughts on these posts, so sound off in the comments and let me know about your experiences with glitter placement - have you done it? Are you inspired to do one yet? I'd love to see it if you do!
