Mani Monday: Holy Holo Half Moons nail art

*** This post contains items which were sent for review and affiliate links. ***

Hey y'all!

Happy Monday, everyone!  Today you get a special three-in-one post, as I've got a fantastic US indie polish I purchased on our trip last month and glequins which were sent for review from Born Pretty Store, and some sparkly nail art to boot!

This holo'd out nail art look is brought to you via two products with which I instantly fell in love.

L-R: ILNP Mega and BPS nail art glitter, pattern #1

Let me start with talking about Mega by ILNP.  This is the holy grail of holographic nail polish!  It is 100% SpectraFlair, which is the pigment that most makers use to create holo polishes.  It's like painting your nails with rainbows.  These pictures were all taken inside, and you can easily see the rainbow bend.  Imagine what it's like to wear these in full sun!  Blinding!  I'd recommend you wear driving gloves, just in case you don't notice that ginormous bus that just pulled off in front of you because you're busy staring at the pretty rainbows.

Application was flawless, as I've come to expect from ILNP.  Everything glides on so smoothly with the flat bristle brushes!  I used three coats for absolute complete opacity, though it's possible that 2 coats might've done it.  I just like to err on the side of caution.

Once all that bottled rainbow was dry, I turned my attention to these lovely holo glequins that I found in the new arrivals section of BPS.

These little glequins come in a sturdy 10g screw-top jar, which is plenty for creating lots and lots of looks.  There are four patterns available, but I chose these because they are the largest of the four and I really wanted some holographic glitters.

Working one nail at a time, I used one coat of non-fast-dry topcoat in the places where I wanted the glequin coverage.  I then used an orange stick with a bit of sticky putty on the end to place the glitters into the wet polish.  As you can see, sometimes they doubled-up on the putty because of static cling, but I didn't worry about that too much as I knew it would just add more sparkle to the look.  If you wanted to be a little more careful with placement, it's easily achievable.  Some people may have time for that.  I don't.  After I had all the glitters placed, I made sure they were pressed flat to the nail with my fingertip, and sealed everything in under a coat of HKG.

Obviously this probably isn't a look suitable for most people's work or daytime wear, but if you have a special occasion coming up (prom, anyone?) and you really want to flash your digits, this would be a great way to go about it.  If you're looking for other glitters, glequins, decals, or other nail art supplies, Born Pretty Store has great pricing and they ship free worldwide, although it may take up to several weeks to arrive, as the products ship from China.

When you order, you can use discount code FXX31 to receive 10% off regularly priced items.  Once this code has been used 10 times, Born Pretty Store will sponsor a giveaway on my blog!

I hope you enjoyed this sparkly shiny nail art look, and that you're off to a fantastic week!

  2. I love the colour underneath... it definitely looks nice! The funny thing though is that I also just painted my nails with glitter polish... with some darker undertones though :)

  6. That polish looks amazing. I've been meaning to try out ILNP, but haven't had the chance yet.

I love how the nail polish and the sequins almost look like scale armor on your nail <3

But this is so ridiculously sparkly. I can imagine I would just be staring at my nails all day if I did this

    1. That's the thing about most of ILNP's polishes... they're so beautiful, you can't stop staring. Especially with the Ultrachromes, you actually have to make a conscious decision not to look at them while you're driving or you're going to run over something!
